Bachelor of Nursing for Overseas Educated Professional Nurses (1 Year pathway)

Enrolment requirements:  

The UQ Bachelor of Nursing 1 year pathway for Overseas Educated Professional Nurses is specifically designed to meet the Australian National Nursing Competency Standards for Registered Nurses. On successful completion of the pathway you will be eligible to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia.
 
If you are a recent graduate, or you have recently completed a minimum three year Diploma or Degree at an approved institution and you have limited clinical practice experience (either post graduation or during your degree), or you are a registered nurse in a country other than Australia, you may be eligible for enrolment in the UQ Bachelor of Nursing 1 year pathway for Overseas Educated Professional Nurses. 

Overseas Educated Nurses who are not eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia but who have completed a degree in nursing in their own country of origin may be considered for enrolment.

English Language Proficiency (IELTS)

To meet the English Language Proficiency requirements for this pathway, international applicants must demonstrate a score of at least 7.0 overall with 7 in each subband (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) of the IELTS Academic test (or equivalent).

Registration

On successful completion of this 1 year pathway students will be eligible to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia.
  
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)  recently announced that graduates in all health disciplines will be required to demonstrate English language skill at IELTS 7 in all bands or equivalent before being considered for professional registration, and within two years of applying for national registration in Australia.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) from 1 July 2010, require nurses applying for registration in Australia (i.e. applicants who have not completed their secondary education as well as a nursing program taught and assessed in English) to demonstrate they have the necessary English language skills required for registration.

How to Apply

Applications for domestic students are made through QTAC.  Domestic students apply for entry into the Bachelor of Nursing program and would then follow the Overseas Educated Professional Nurses pathway. Domestic students, as with International students, will need to meet IELTS requirements.

 Applications for International students into the Bachelor of Nursing for Overseas Educated Professional Nurses pathway are made through The University of Queensland International Admissions Office . 

When submitting your application you will need to provide: Certified copies of all transcripts of results, award certificates, grading systems, and translations (if required), documents for English Proficiency, other documentation as outlined in The UQ application form, or as requested by The UQ School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Enrolment is subject to proof that the candidate has satisfied the English language proficiency requirement.
