The School of Nursing and Midwifery merged with the School of Social Work & Human Services on January 1, 2015.

We’re working on a new school website, and after the transition, some of the information here may not be current. When the new website is ready it will offer updated information and this site will be retained for archival and staff purposes.

Research undertaken within the School of Nursing and Midwifery is informed by global, national and state primary health care practice and strategy. Our research addresses and defines barriers to health, and examines methods by which improvements to health care can be achieved.

Reflecting the diversity of care settings within which the School of Nursing and Midwifery practices, the focus of particular research may incorporate three interrelated areas or clusters, and extend to primary, secondary and tertiary levels of clinical care.

Topics of research reflect the three research clusters –

Quality Health Systems
Health Across the Lifespan
Chronic Conditions

The University of Queensland and Blue Care have forged a formal academic link and developed The University of Queensland/Blue Care Research and Practice Development Centre (RPDC).  This is a significant collaborative initiative that strengthens academic /industry partnerships and provides mutual benefit to both organisations.

Nurses and Midwives e-chort Study

In 2006, the Nurses and Midwives e-cohort study (NMeS) was conceived and implemented by a team of researchers, led by Professor Catherine Turner at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at The University of Queensland. The NMeS is an international longitudinal population-based study. The purpose of the study is to examine factors associated with both workforce and health outcomes in a cohort of nurses & midwives from Australia, New Zealand and the UK. To date 15 papers have been published with a further six articles in press. For more information, please visit the website.

Applications from are invited from external researchers and scholars who are interested in undertaking research using data from the NMeS. Initial inquires should be made to Lindy Humphreyes-Reid via email l.humphreyesreid@uq.edu.au
